USAF (Ret.)

A veteran who proudly served his country in World War II, the Korean and Vietnam Wars during his 30-year military career passed away on February 21, 2013 in Alexandria, VA at the age of 85. Born in Oakdale, CA, he was a resident of Alexandria, VA since 1967, moving to The Fairfax Military Retirement Community in 2010. A graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, Class of 1950, he opted to serve in the U.S. Air Force where he completed flight training in 1951. Moll flew countless missions for his country as a fighter pilot between 1950 and 1966 to include F-80s in Korean combat, F-86Ds in Air Defense Command, and T-39s throughout Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War before being assigned to the Pentagon and subsequently to the Joint Chiefs of Staff. As Chief of the planning division for Worldwide Military Command and Control, Moll was instrumental in the foundation of the global network of airborne and ground command centers. He attained the rank of Colonel and received numerous awards and decorations including two Legion of Merit awards and one bronze star.
He was preceded in death by his son, Kenneth Lee Moll, Jr. in 1975, as well as his twin brother, Kendall D. Moll, USNA 1950, in 2008. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Marilyn Moll; son, Kevin N. Moll (Melanie); daughter, Nancy M. Haynes; two grandsons, Alexander and Andrew Moll; brother, Leo R. Moll; sister-in-law, Barbara D. Moll; nieces and nephews.
Family and friends may gather on Saturday, March 2, 2013 from 2 to 5 p.m. at Everly-Wheatley Funeral Home, 1500 W. Braddock Rd., Alexandria, VA 22302. Funeral services will be held at a later date at Ft. Myer's Memorial Chapel followed by interment at Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors.
