KRISTI SCHWAB

Kristi June Schwab, 61, a loving wife, mother, and a dedicated instructional assistant at Virginia Run Elementary School in Centreville, passed away March 4, 2013 at her home in Clifton VA, after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer. Kristi was born in Ridgway, PA and graduated from Edinboro University with a degree in Medical Technology. Her degree took her to a Boston hospital where she worked prior to her marriage. As a Navy wife, she and the family moved often. Along the way, she found time to raise two energetic and talented boys. Kristi's unique ability to adapt allowed her to continue lab work, manage a remote credit union, and volunteer her time. When military orders brought her family to Northern VA, Kristi was hired at the newly opened Virginia Run Elementary School. She started as a kindergarten assistant, eventually moving to a reading instructional assistant position. Her relentless passion for helping students overcome reading challenges kept her motivated each and every day over the last twenty years. Her infectious energy, hearty laugh, and constant positive outlook will be sorely missed by all those who were blessed to have known her. Kristi is preceded in death by her parents, Homer and Vi Smith of Pennsylvania. She is survived by Rick, her husband of 38 years, her brothers, Robbie Smith of Colorado and Scott Smith of Michigan, and her loving sons, Jeff Schwab of California and Brad Schwab of Massachusetts. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 9, 2013, at 1 p.m. at Saint Mathews United Methodist Church, 8617 Little River Turnpike, Annandale, VA 22003. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to The Reading Connection literacy program (thereadingconnection.org). A guestbook is available to share memories at the website below:
