Died peacefully at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore on November 15, 2012, after a short illness. Beloved daughter of James H. Lemon Jr. and Lavinia F. Packard, adored sister of Ashley Lemon Shaw, Vinnie was the cherished wife of 21 years of Andrew C. Pitzer, of Washington DC, and the devoted mother of Elizabeth Ashley Pitzer, 17, and Claire Madison Pitzer and James Lemon Pitzer, 14 year old twins.
A beautiful woman with a radiant smile that could light up a room, Vinnie attended the Beauvoir and Potomac Schools and was a graduate of Miss Porter's School in Farmington, CT and of Hollins College in Roanoke, VA. She also earned a Master's degree in Education from the Johns Hopkins University, and became a gifted teacher at Beauvoir, Potomac and St. Columba's schools.
Vinnie rejoiced in her three beautiful children, as well as in her two nephews, Fletcher Lemon Shaw, 9, and George Fisher Shaw, 7. She was graced with a lovely sense of humor, a twinkle in her eye, a magnetic charm that captivated children of all ages, and a generosity of spirit that warmed her broad circle of friends and admirers.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 1 at 1 PM at the St. Alban's Church on the grounds of the National Cathedral. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the St. David's Episcopal Church, 5150 Macomb St. NW, Washington, DC 20016 or to the Children's National Medical Center in Washington, DC.
