Dr. LEONARD E. PUHRMANN (Age 70)
Sunrise: July 12, 1941
Sunset: June 30, 2012

Leonard was born in Hartley and grew up on a farm near Paullina, Iowa.

He was predeceased by his father and mother, Elmer and Regina Puhrmann.

He is survived by his long time companion of 35 years, John Jones; beloved brother of Doris Benjamin and Carl Puhrmann; nieces, nephews, and a host of friends. Leonard attended several colleges and universities; Morningside College, University of Nebraska, Goethe University in Germany and the University of Pennsylvania. He earned his doctoral degree at the University of Penn in Germanic languages. He later returned to the University of Penn to teach German for several years. Recently he retired from Verizon as a high level manager. Leonard loved classical music, all genres of movies, playing cards and the occasional visit to a casino. He was also a ravenous reader of books. Leonard's favorite author was P. G. Wodehouse. He enjoyed cooking a variety of foods. His pineapple cheesecake was always a "big hit" at gatherings of friends and/or family. Leonard always took much pride in letting others know that he was "just an Iowa farm boy!" Back in the year 2000 he contracted stage 4 colon cancer and survived it. Earlier this year he was diagnosed with bladder cancer to which he eventually succumbed. Leonard's final wishes included having his body cremated. In his honor we would like for you to make donations to The .
