Lillian Ely Hampton, 99, of Weyers Cave, passed away on Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at Willow Estates.
Lillian was born April 13, 1914 in Baltimore, Md. and was the daughter of the late Harry and Elsie Ely. After high school, she worked with children until she began studying nursing at Sibley Memorial Hospital in the Lucy Webb Hayes National Training School in Washington, DC.
After graduating in 1939 as a registered nurse, she worked as a nurse until 1950 when she married her husband, Wade Kenneth Hampton. Thereafter, she lived in Fairfax Station, VA, raising her family and working as a homemaker for many years.
In addition to her parents and husband, she is also preceded in death by a daughter Susan B Hampton.
Surviving family includes a son and daughter-in-law, Leonard and Norma Jean Hampton; grandchildren Alice Morgan, Ellie Herndon and Ruth Champaign; a great-grand-daughter, Ava Jean Morgan; and sisters, Ruth Bohannon and Betty Lassell.
A funeral service and time of remembrance will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday, April 19, 2013 at the Kyger Funeral Home Chapel in Harrisonburg with Pastor Mark Keller officiating. Family will receive friends following the service.
Graveside service will be on Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Fairfax City Cemetery in Fairfax Virginia.
In lieu of flowers memorial contribution may be made to the Christian Appalachian Project at P.O. Box 55911, Lexington, KY 40555-5911.
