'OSS MARY HENDRIX ROSS (Age 88) "Alberta" Of Jacksonville, Florida passed away on Tuesday, November 6, 2012 in the company of family. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, G. Lehman Ross, and her older brother, Thomas Hendrix. Alberta was born on September 14, 1924 in Miraj, India to her Presbyterian missionary parents, the Rev. Everett J. Hendrix and Minnie Clagett Hendrix. Spent most of childhood in Colorado and Oklahoma. She graduated from Guthrie High School in Guthrie, OK. She met her husband Lehman in Guthrie, OK and married on April 1, 1945. She attended Oklahoma State and graduated from the Univ. of Oklahoma. She majored in education. Besides raising three boys, she taught elementary school. Throughout her life, Alberta loved her church, her family, her dogs, any child that crossed her path, loved music and loved to sing. Her life embodied the meaning of Christian living. Although our family lived in a variety of places from east coast to west, she lived the longest in Laurel, MD for 35 years. She was a lifelong member of P.E.O., served as Deacon and Elder in various United Presbyterian Churches of which she was a member. She has made Jacksonville, FL her home the last 11 years of her life in the loving care of her family and as a member of Hodges Blvd. Presbyterian Church. Alberta is survived by her younger sister, Lillian Hendrix Schaub (Col. Warren) of Oklahoma City, OK; sons, George E. Ross (Jeri) of Jacksonville, FL, David E. Ross (Janice) of Haysville, KS and Bruce R. Ross of San Francisco, CA; her grandchildren, Darren Ross (Kimberly), Rebecca Ross Harkness (Trevor), John Grzybek, Dustin Ross (Kelly) and Christopher Ross (Glynda); and her great-grandchildren, who know her lovingly as "GG", Tyler, Victoria and Annabelle Ross, Katie and Jackson Harkness, and Nicholas, Devin and Braeden Ross. A celebration of Alberta's life will be held at Hodges Blvd. Presbyterian Church, 4140 Hodges Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32224 on Saturday, November 17 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations to Hodges Blvd. Presbyterian Church in Alberta's name.
