Matilda "Tillie" Ausich, age 92, passed away December 8, 2012, in Petaluma, CA. Tillie was the daughter of Mary and Anton Ausich, who had each emigrated from Slovenia and was the youngest of their five children growing up in Woodward, IA. In 1948, she began her 43 year secretarial career at the Pentagon and eventually became Executive Secretary to the Air Staff Board, Office of the Vice Chief of Staff of the Air Force until retirement. She also briefly worked in the private sector.
Her interests included instructor of ballroom dancing and travels in Europe, Canada, Mexico, Africa, and the U.S. She also enjoyed doing needlework. She was the recording secretary for the Slovenian Women's organization in the Washington metro area for many years and contributed a monthly article to the national magazine Zarja and served on their Heritage committee.
She is survived by nine nieces and nephews and their children and grandchildren.
A funeral Mass will be held on December 15 at Assumption Catholic Church in Granger, IA, followed by burial in Woodward, IA.
A memorial donation will be made in her honor to purchase books for the Woodward-Granger Elementary School.
