MILDRED L. SAVACOOL
Mildred L. Savacool, former YWCA Executive of Washington, DC, died on Sunday, November 18, 2012 at Sunrise of Countryside in Sterling, VA. She was born on July 9, 1916 in Pottstown, PA; the oldest of five daughters of Lutheran minister the Rev. J.S. and Anna L. Savacool.
Mildred graduated from Wilson College at the age of twenty. After four years as a high school language teacher, she took an interim job with the YWCA, which developed into a lifelong dedication to social service work and the advancement of women. She served as Executive Director of the YWCA of Greater Pittsburgh from 1961 to 1969 and of the National Capital Area in Washington, D.C., until her retirement in 1981.
In Washington, D.C., Mildred was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Reformation and in retirement served as a member of the Congregation Council.
She is survived by three sisters Jean S. Barker, Esther S. Wood and Anne M. Savacool, nieces Deborah and Janet Wood, nephews David Wood and Robert McCard, plus numerous grand nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at the Lutheran Church of the Reformation on Sunday, December 16, at 1 p.m. Attendees may greet the Savacool family at the Church either before or after the service.
