Myron Ervin Thompson, Jr., 82, of Gettysburg, PA and formerly of Bethesda, MD passed away Tuesday, October 30, 2012 at Colonial Manor, York, PA. He was the husband of the late Eleanor (Maury) Thompson.
He was born February 20, 1930 in Washington, DC the son of the late Myron Ervin, Sr. and Nan (Travis) Thompson.
Myron served four years in the United States Marine Corps and later served in the Marine Corps Reserve for 24 years attaining the rank of Master Sergeant. He was employed with the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD as a high voltage electrician. Myron was a military history and weapons buff and enjoyed building military models. He was also an avid bird watcher.
He is survived by his son, Myron E. "Mike" Thompson, III of Biglerville, PA and granddaughters, Elizabeth Fenella Thompson of Washington, NC and Gretchen Marie Thompson of South Dakota.
He was preceded in death by his brother Lloyd Franklin Thompson and his sister Gale Lynch.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 8, 2012 at 2 p.m. at Jireh Independent Baptist Church, 3086 Biglerville Road, Biglerville, PA with Pastor Gregg Keckler officiating. A time to share memories and an opportunity to view will be on Thursday from 1 to 2 p.m. at the church with refreshments immediately following. Burial with full military honors will be in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA.
