Passed away on November 2, 2013. Peter was born on July 21, 1931 and grew up with his large family in Roebling, New Jersey. He went to college at the Colorado School of Mines where he earned his undergraduate degree in Engineering, and then went on to receive a law degree from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. His career included serving in the U.S. Navy and at the Department of Defense where he rose to the level of Deputy Undersecretary of Defense. After retiring from the Federal Government, he worked as the Senior Vice President and General Counsel of the American National Standards Institute. He also practiced as a lawyer throughout his life. He was a founding member and active supporter of the Epiphany of our Lord Byzantine Catholic Church in Annandale, VA. He is survived by his brothers and sisters Ann Koehnlein, Evelyn Houston, Dr. Daniel Yurcisin, and Joseph Yurcisin. He is predeceased by his wife Elizabeth Yurcisin who passed away in 2009. He is survived by a large and loving family including his daughters Nina Fernandez (Frans), Paula Yurcisin, Lindy Yurcisin, and Kim Garrison (Lance) and his six grandchildren, Francesca Fernandez, Fransie Fernandez, Elizabeth Garrison, Brady Garrison, Cody Yurcisin, and Peter Suthard.
All who knew and remember Pete know him for his warm smile, generous heart, and overwhelming love and devotion to his family and friends. He was a caregiver throughout his life and will be missed by those who were blessed to know him.
Friends may call at Fairfax Memorial Funeral Home 9902 Braddock Rd. Fairfax VA on Tuesday, November 5 from 5 to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Epiphany of Our Lord Byzantine Catholic Church, 3410 Woodburn Rd., Annandale VA on Wednesday, November 6 at 10 a.m. Interment to follow at Fairfax Memorial Park.
