Phyllis Pearl Birtman Bickerton, of Fulton, MD, passed away January 22, 2013, at the age of 79, after a courageous year of battling pancreatic cancer. She was born on March 23, 1933 to Paul and Libby Birtman, Greenbelt pioneers, who preceded her in death. She graduated from Greenbelt High School, Class of 1951. She retired from her career at USDA in June 2001 after 47 years of service and maintained many friendships made over these years. Mom enjoyed relaxing on her back porch watching the many birds at her feeders and tending to her beautiful yard. She was a loving grandmother to her four grandchildren, traveling near and far to attend graduations, recitals, concerts, birthday celebrations, and sporting events.
She is the devoted mother of Denise Marie Biggins, Michael Paul Bickerton, and Danielle Patricia Lineburg, and the loving grandmother of Jason Paul Biggins, Laura Elizabeth Biggins, Melissa Libby Lineburg, and Kelsey Sophia Lineburg. Along with her children and grandchildren, she is survived by sons-in-law Dean Biggins and Bill Lineburg, her sister, Eunice Burton and brother-in-law, Edward Burton, their children, Sandi Yakupkovic and Scott Burton and former husband, Monty Bickerton. The family will receive friends on Friday, January 25, 2013, at Borgwardt Funeral Home 4400 Powder Mill Road Beltsville, MD at 1:00 p.m., followed by a service at 2:00 p.m.; Interment will be at George Washington Cemetery, 9500 Riggs Road Adelphi, MD, immediately following the service. Mom would be honored to have memorial contributions made in her memory to the Friends of the Greenbelt Museum, P.O. Box 1025, Greenbelt, MD 20768.
