RACHEL R. BOSMA
Rachel Riherd Bosma, 95 passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 8, 2012 at her home in College Park, Maryland.
Mrs. Bosma was born in Mulberry, Florida on July 16, 1917 and moved to Tampa in 1919. She lived there until moving to Orlando in 1944. She retired in 1961 after serving as Business Education Teacher and Department Head with the Orange County Vocational School in Orlando for sixteen years.
Rachel graduated from H.B. Plant High School in Tampa in 1934 where she was a member of the National Honor Society. She attended Brewster Vocational School, Florida State College for Women and Florida State University. She graduated with B.S.E. and M.Ed. degrees from the University of Florida
Rachel was a member of Phi Kappa Phi, Kappa Delta Pi, Pi Lambda Theta, and Tau Iota Epsilon honor societies. At the time of her death she was a member of the UF National Alumni Association, Central Florida Retired Educators Association, Florida Retired Educators Association, Inc., and St. Hugh of Grenoble Catholic Church, Greenbelt, MD.
She was preceded in death by her husband Frank B. Bosma, stepdaughter Ruby Church Robertson, parents Franklin and Nora Riherd, sisters Sarah R. Spradlin and Mary R. Spencer and a brother Thomas S. Riherd, Sr. Survivors include six step-grandchildren, 11 step-great-grandchildren and eight step-great-great grandchildren.
Services on Saturday, December 15, 2012. Visitation, 10 a.m. Funeral Mass, 11 a.m., St. Hugh of Grenoble Catholic Church, 135 Crescent Road, Greenbelt, MD. Interment Ft. Lincoln Cemetery, Bladensburg, MD.
