Raymond Kitchell Obituary

KITCHELL RAYMOND E. KITCHELL Raymond Kitchell, 85, of Alexandria, VA, a World War II veteran, 25 year federal employee and United Nations official, died at the Capital Hospice Inpatient Center, in Arlington, VA, April 2, 2010 of complications from Alzheimer''s disease. Mr. Kitchell received a bachelor of arts in journalism and political science from Syracuse University in 1948, a master''s of public administration from Syracuse''s Maxwell Graduate School in 1952, and graduated from the National War College in 1970. He retired from the federal government and the Foreign Service (USAID), in 1975, and from the United Nations Industrial Development Organization in 1984. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mary Ellen Thorpe Kitchell, and three children, Cherie L. Kitchell, husband, Allan J. Morrison Jr., of McLean; Melinda Kitchell Malico, husband, Robert Malico, of Annandale; Mark R. Kitchell, wife, Delphine Vessellier, of Amsterdam, the Netherlands; and also three grandchildren, Carly Morrison, Bryce Morrison, and Julia Malico. Funeral service, Tuesday, June 29, 11 a.m., Old Post Chapel, Fort Myer Army Base, Arlington, VA, followed by Inurnment at Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to the memory of Raymond E. Kitchell to Capital Hospice, 2900 Telestar Ct., Falls Church, VA 22042 or to the Alzheimer''s Association, 3701 Pender Dr., Suite 400. Fairfax, VA 22030.

I have lost my "big brother". Our mothers (sisters) were both divorced and we all lived together. Ray and I were more like siblings than cousins. I will miss him.
