RICHARD PARDO Obituary

RICHARD DOUGLAS PARDO  04/12/1933 - 05/30/2014
Richard D. Pardo, 81, of Ft. Washington, MD, died early Friday morning. A Fellow of the Society of American Foresters, he enjoyed a long active life of professional accomplishment, travel, and adventure. He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Thuy Nguyen Pardo, and his children: Lewis N. Pardo, of the home; Eric D. Lincoln of Frederick, MD; Virginia C. Pardo of Asheville, NC and Jonmikel B. Pardo of Rockland, ME.  Younger son of Jess and Hester Eastman Pardo of Seattle, WA, Rchard grew up with his brother Alan (deceased) along the shores of Lake Washington and Puget Sound. During his school years as a young man, he spent two summers logging, then worked the next three summers as a Ranger for the National Park Service in Yellowstone National Park. He earned a BSF in Forestry Management, Cum Laude, from the College of Forest Resources, University of Washington (1955), and a JD from Harvard Law School (1967). He was a 1st Lt. in the Army Corps of Engineers in 1956 and 1957.  His distinguished career as a Forester, spanning 36 years, took him around the country and the globe as he worked for the Keep Washington Green Association (Seattle, WA), the Maine Forest Service (Augusta, ME), the Conservation Foundation and the American Forestry Association (Washington, DC), the Food & Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (Rome, Italy), ICF Incorporated and Chemonics International (Washington, DC), and also as an independent consultant in international forestry policy. After retiring from Forestry, he pursued a career in Real Estate, obtaining his license in Virginia.  A longtime resident of Northern Virginia, he was an ardent outdoorsman, adventurer and photographer who also had keen interests in history, music, sports and politics. Some of his favorite activities included traveling with his family, reading, spending time in Huntley Meadows Park, and relaxing at home on the deck. He will be dearly missed by his familyand friends.  A memorial service with the interment of ashes will take place at a future date to be determined.
