I had Ms. Kosofsky as my English teacher in 1968-69 at Walt Whitman High School. I was not a great student in English but Ms. Kosofsky worked her hardest to keep me involved and I actually looked forward to going to her class each day. It was obvious that she cared about her students and she poured everything that she had into her lessons. She was very kind and understanding but also set high expectations and worked hard to help all of her students reach those expectations.
I know that Ms. Kosofsky will be mourned and missed by many but I also know that we should celebrate the life of someone who truly made a difference for thousands of students and the legacy of her work will continue on for generations. I know that she is flying with the angels. May she always Rest in Peace!!

Rita was my teacher at Whitman around 1971. She woke me up to how much I had been missing both in English class and in literature. That can't have been easy! I wish I remembered how she did it.
