ALVEY ROBERT ALVEY, SR. "Bob" Robert (Bob) Alvey, Sr., age 86, of Catharpin, Virginia, passed away at home February 19, 2013 surrounded by his loving family. Born December 4, 1926 in Catharpin, he was the son of the late Jack W. and Pearl Sanders Alvey. On May 1, 1948 in Haymarket, VA, he married the former Sara Jane Lightner, who survives. Bob attended the Hargrave Military Academy, Osbourn High School, and served in the United States Navy during WWII. He served as a deputy for the Prince William County Sheriff's office, and was a community leader having helped establish the Ruritan Club in Haymarket. He later won election to the Prince William County Board of Supervisors Representing the Gainesville district where he also served as the Chairman of that body, and respectfully promoted and supported the Prince William County Police. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother. Surviving, besides his beloved wife of 64 years, Sara Jane Alvey of Catharpin, are two children, Jane Alvey Kammerdeiner of Gainesville and Robert (Robbie) W. Alvey, Jr. of Rixeyville; two brothers, four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 21, 2013 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Baker-Post Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 10001 Nokesville Road, Manassas. Funeral Services will be held on Friday February 22, 2013, 12 noon at the Sudley United Methodist Church, 5308 Sudley Road, Sudley Springs, VA, with Rev. Bass Mitchell officiating. Interment will take place in the Sudley United Methodist Church Cemetery, with a reception immediately following. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may take the form of a donation to Capital Caring, 10530 Linden Lake Plaza, Suite 200, Manassas, VA 20110.
