I had the great good fortune of knowing Bob as a business colleague, coaching colleague and friend. We shared so many different experiences and the one thing that stands out for me is consistency. Bob was always compassionate, fair, intuitive, decisive, and humble. We navigated through some remarkable industry upheavals and some dicey coaching moments - which sometimes seemed more urgent at the time. And Bob helped me and others weather all of those "storms". To say he is missed is simply not strong enough. The lives of everyone who knew him and many who did not, became just a little less fulfilling when Bob left us.

Today is 8/5/2014 and I am still expecting to see Bob's smiling face walk through my office. He was a great man, friend, mentor and teacher to us.
He not only taught us about the lending business, he taught us how to be better people.
Many of our membership have been speaking to me(even today) as to what a great person he was and how he treated them. I miss you boss!!

As I reflect on the many wonderful memories of Bob and Cheryl, I recall faces of their grown children and realize what great people he has helped mold. Patriarch, Father, Husband and Devoted Man to his religion, Bob will be missed by his fellow ND Lacrosse Family members. Cheryl will always have a strong shoulder to lean on with the Clan but the ND Parent group is around for added support.
God Bless and I know he will be that 11 man for ND this weekend in Baltimore.
God Bless and the entire family will be in our thoughts!

What a tragedy to have someone as wonderful an example of a family man to leave us so soon. Only the highest praise canbe shown to have come forth in the wonderful seven children that Cheryl and Bob set forth in this world. Bob's even and steady religious leadership in guiding his family will be sorely missed. His friendliness and jovial manner will be carried on by his children. All of us who knew him can only marvel at his steady and unassuming demeanor that he portrayed in this less than perfect world. We feel privileged to have known him. Because our kids were of different ages, Bob and I were just nodding acquaintances in the neighborhood, but I had two empathetic connections with him which showed me his wisdom and his respectful love of children.
I think of these connections now as I come in from mowing our front lawn, and learn of his passing
The first connection was at the River Falls pool, where I emulated his low-key presence as a swim dad. Nothing flustered him (at least on the outside), and he and I used to exchange bemused smiles at the “crisis of the moment” or the “big event of the moment.”
There were many of the latter for him because the Kemp kids were such great swimmers. And there was at least one for me that I shared with him. That was when Liz and our eight year-old Stephanie Stevens were part of the relay team that set the pool record. Bob and I were there that day with our low-key smiles (low-key on the outside only as far as I was concerned, I can guarantee you that). A couple of years ago, when I saw that their names had finally been replaced on the Pool Records Board by a new relay team, I thought back to that glorious day when kids so far apart in age could exult in a common task.
The other connection involved water too-- squirted water. Bob was always there in front of his house with his clan in a long row of folding chairs, as the July 4th parade made its big right turn for home. And he always showed the proper amount of complete and utter surprise as our decorated Suburban leaned into the turn, and the cluster of eight year-old and nine year-old boys therein (one of whom was at least fifty) fired away at his group with super-soakers.
I have no more swimmers to re-kindle the first memory. But in less than two months, I will have a re-kindling of the latter.
I offer the condolences of the Stevens family.

My first encounter with Bob was as an adversary when St Catherine's CYO football team played St Jude's in eighth grade (1963). Bob and I later played together at Good Counsel Those of the class of '68 football squad all remember Bob's total domination of Dematha's All-Met middle guard candidate. Bob and I also teamed up as chemistry lab partners, a fact we recently reminisced about at a Good Counsel alumni event. I offer my condolences to the entire Kemp family for their sudden loss. I will always remember Bob as an honest, friendly, and dedicated teammate.

Debbie and I were devastated to receive the news of Bob Kemp's passing last Saturday. Just walking off the field after a lacrosse game at Notre Dame when word first reached us. Have struggled with this news ever since and still cannot imagine.
I had the good fortune to have two boys at Notre Dame over the past 7 years and both played lacrosse with Joey and then John Kemp. Debbie and I got to know Bob and Cheryl and spent most weekends together from February to May. We will remember Bob as a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Through his actions he was also a teacher and we can only hope to live up to the same example he was to his children and grandchildren. We last saw Bob just two weeks ago in Philadelphia at the ACC Tournament, coffee cup in hand, mumbling something about Cheryl making him drive through South Philadelphia to find a good cup to share. He was a natural leader, a good man, and we will sorely miss him. Our deepest sympathies to Cheryl and the entire Kemp family.

To the Kemp Family: My name is Bob Stohner. I was a fraternity brother of Bob's at William and Mary, class of '73. My heart and prayers go out to you at this difficult time. Your husband/father was a friend and a brother of mine at Kappa Sigma. He was indeed a genuine character, one that I will never forget. Bob always had a smile on his face, and he had a special knack for making those around him smile too. What a wonderful sense of humor he had...it was truly contagious! I consider myself privileged to have known Bob. God bless you all!

Years ago I worked with Bob and CJ at American Bank. At the time Bob was Head of Underwriting. He quickly became my mentor, confidant and friend. We thought alike when it came to working on loans. As the years went by and jobs/employers changed we had the chance to meet up again at my office Christmas party. It was as though time stood still. I again got to chat with him when he came by the office recently to have lunch with my co worker a long time friend of Bob's. The past two visits we reminised about the time he gave an autographed football from a few of the Notre Dame football players to my son. My son still treasures that football and the memories of coming to my office and meeting Bob. My thoughts and prayers are with your family. He was a wonderful man and will be missed.

As many other parents have shared the very same feelings about Bob..... he has always been an inspirational fellow parent from the first day I met him some 5 years ago on the sideline of a Notre Dame Lax game. He infused not only much appreciated introductions to other parents, but also experienced thoughts on the view of this game at this University and most importantly , his views as a parent of a son going through this. And Bob had more heartfelt experience in this respect than anyone I have ever known at this level.
ALL the Foleys will miss Bob very much and thank him for all he has done to improve the appreciation of enjoying the special relationships we have in life !

I was deeply saddened to hear of Bob's very untimely passing. It was my privilege and honor to come to know Bob very well professionally over the past several years. I hold Mr. Kemp up as father exemplar. He truly loved and lived his llife for family. Although I only worked with some of his great sons, he proudly filled me in on his tremendous daughters' accomplishments. He beamed and celebrated the many successes (life and athletic) of his terrific children. I loved running into him at Prep. He was always full of good news and looking forward to the next family event. May we all receive as much joy as he did from family. He was a blessed man. My family was graced to meet Bob Kemp in South Bend very early in Joey's years at Notre Dame, a finer gentleman we have never met.I found that I needed to listen to what he both said & didn't say as I struggled to create my own identity as a father, he was always genuinely interested in hearing what my Wife & kids were doing and glad to share the same information about the Family he so Dearly Loves and when I sensed that he needed to go but was too polite to say so, all I had to do was ask him anything about himself and five seconds later he was off to the goal that Joey or John was covering. My Family is so much the Better because we were Blessed to have the Kemp Family touch each one of us, Our thoughts and Prayers are with You.

Thinking and praying for the entire Kemp family during this difficult time... So saddened by this news, and I hope Mr. Kemp's family and friends can find strength with the memories and love he's left behind.

Bob Kemp was a great neighbor and good friend. For many years he was referred to by many in our neighborhood as the "Mayor" of River Falls. We will always think of Bob fondly and remember him with a smile. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his wonderful family.
