SHAWN MULLANEY Obituary

SHAWN TAYLOR MULLANEY  February 11, 1959-August 11, 2017
Shawn was born in Colorado Springs, CO. As the fourth child of an Air Force officer, she also lived in Canada, Virginia, Mississippi, and Belgium. She graduated in 1977 from Herndon High School and received her BA from George Mason University. After a stint in the State Department, she transitioned to the private sector, forging a stellar career in IT.  Shawn shone brightest as a mother, and she leaves a legacy of service in her ultimate hometown of Reston, VA. She volunteered enthusiastically with the Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, and youth swimming/soccer. After a 2009 diagnosis of breast cancer, she began running 5Ks, in concert with her hugely supportive cohort. Shawn battled her illness bravely and was a doggedly successful advocate for her treatment. She retained a passion for the Redskins, Bruce Springsteen concerts, and her cherished circle of family and friends. Yet closest to her heart were her beloved children, Ashley and David Turner, in whom she found abiding joy and pride. Shawn is also survived by her parents, Barbara Mullaney and Brig. Gen. David Mullaney, USAF, (Ret.); her sisters, Janet Mullaney of Charlottesville, VA, Alison Heath of Shipman, VA, Patricia Mullaney of Gulf Shores, AL, and Lynn Mullaney of Atlanta, GA, her brothers, Chris Mullaney of Patuxent River, MD, and Mark Mullaney of Alexandria, VA, and her former husband, Paul Turner of Herndon, VA.  A Funeral Mass will be held at St John Neumann Catholic Church in Reston, VA, on Monday, August 28, 2017, at 11 a.m.

After reconnecting earlier this year on Facebook, I can't believe you are gone. Several years ago, we had met working together at NIH and had some good times there. Sorry for you and your family that you lost this battle. Will remember you and your family in our prayers.
