'ABINOWITZ Rabbi STANLEY RABINOWITZ Peacefully on his 95th birthday, June 8, 2012, Rabbi Stanley Rabinowitz, passed away. Born in Duluth, Minnesota and reared in Des Moines, Iowa, the son of Rose and Jacob Rabinovitz and grandson of Rabbi Naftali Herz Zeichik. Married to the former Anita Lifson, (of blessed memory) and father of three children, Nathaniel Herz (who predeceased him) of Washington, DC, Dr. Sharon Chard-Yaron of San Diego, CA, and Judith (Amnon) Argaman of Herzliya, Israel; four grandchildren and one great-grandson; brothers Sheldon Rabinowitz of Des Moines, IA and the late Ronald (Uby) Rabinovitz of Des Moines, IA. He had been living with his daughter, Sharon, in San Diego since 2011. Rabbi Emeritus of Adas Israel Congregation in Washington, DC, he served as its senior rabbi from 1960 to 1986. Prior to coming to Washington, he served Congregation B'nai Jacob in New Haven, CT and Congregation Adath Jeshurun in Minneapolis, MN Funeral service will be held Friday, June 15 at 11 a.m. at Adas Israel Congregation, 2850 Quebec St., NW, Washington, DC 20008. Burial immediately following at Adas Israel Cemetery, 1400 Alabama Ave., SE, Washington, DC. Family will be observing Shiva at the synagogue Sunday through Wednesday receiving visitors from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. with a Shiva Minyan service held at 6 p.m. Contributions may be made to the Rabbi Stanley Rabinowitz History Fund at Adas Israel or the . Arrangements by HINES-RINALDI FUNERAL HOME under Jewish Funeral Practices Committee of Greater Washington.
