Passed away on February 23, 2014, at her home, as a result of complications from a neurological disease. She was a psychiatric social worker, getting her bachelors from Vassar College and obtaining her Master's Degree after attending Columbia University and Howard. Susie, as she was known to her admirers, was a board certified diplomate, specializing in clinical psychotherapy. She studied under Anna Freud at London's renowned Hampstead Clinic; was a member of the Department of Psychiatry at Children's Hospital; and supervised numerous fellow psychotherapists. Susie was touted by her peers as one of the very best therapists in the Metropolitan Area. For 50 years, she treated troubled youngsters, couples with marriage difficulties, and adults confronting serious mental issues. With wit, charm, and a wealth of experience, Susie helped better the lives of those who sought her advice and wisdom. Susie conducted research and lectured on Minimal Brain Dysfunction, and became well-known for her work with children with ADD and ADHD. She served as chairperson of the Clinical Practice Committee of the National Association of Social Workers. Susie was a consultant to numerous local schools regarding children with emotional problems. Considered a great gourmet cook, she enjoyed serving dishes to family and friends, assuring them that she never made the same entrée twice. She constantly would try new ingredients and different spices to vary her marvelous creations. Loved and cherished by her grandchildren, Grandma Susie experienced her greatest happiness when she was with, or thought about, her four sweethearts. Survivors include her husband, Norman Blumenfeld: her children, Lane Blumenfeld and his wife Liz Blumenfeld, daughter Jessica Bauman and her husband Ben Posel, and daughter, Amy Bauman. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Sam and Zach Blumenfeld and Leo and Toby Posel, and Kira and Matthew Felsenfeld.. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 25, 2014, 12 p.m. at Temple Micah, 2829 Wisconsin Avenue, N.W., Washington, DC and interment thereafter at Mt. Lebanon Cemetery, Adelphi, MD.
