BURNS TEMA RAYE BURNS "Tammy" Tammy was born in The Bronx, New York on February 5, 1943 and spent her school years living with her grandparents in Brooklyn. She attended the University of Maryland where she earned a degree in Elementary School Education and met her husband, Sidney Burns. They were married on March 21, 1964. She became an elementary school teacher, and spent most of her career teaching in the most difficult schools in DC. Pregnant with her first child, she decided to end her teaching career and begin her motherhood career. While raising two children, she was a full time office manager, as well, then went on to pass the real estate exam and discovered her calling selling homes. Tammy was a very kind person; her favorite thing was to take people under her wing and help them in any way she could. Tammy refused to give up, she refused to accept what was not possible, and she made things happen. In Tammy's final days, she was being treated for a rare strain of metastatic colon cancer at the Washington Adventist Hospital. She passed away on December 20, 2012, the Winter Solstice. She is survived by her husband, Sidney; daughter, Holly; son, Andrew; and her grandchildren, Emily and Shannon. Services previously held. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes that you make a donation to: Washington Adventist Hospital Foundation 7600 Carroll Ave. Takoma Park, MD 20912 301-891-7600 http://www.washingtonadventist hospital.com/WAH/foundation/
