THEODORE WARREN GROOM
Died at his father's house in Arlington, Virginia on February 25, 2012, after a valiant battle with a rare form of cancer. Ted grew up in Arlington and attended Jamestown, Williamsburg, and Yorktown public schools; he was very active athletically and captain of the Yorktown High School baseball team. He graduated from University of Richmond, where he was a member of Theta Chi fraternity. He lived in Arlington for a number of years before moving to Phoenix in the early 1980's.
Ted graduated from culinary school in Scottsdale, Arizona and held a number of jobs in the catering industry before finding his true calling as a teacher. He attained a master's degree in education and worked at South Mountain High School in Phoenix for five years, among other educational positions in the Phoenix area. He spent the last 9 years as a much beloved teacher at the Leysin American School in Switzerland (LAS) where he taught history as well as baccalaureate degree courses.
He is survived by his parents, Virginia Groom and Theodore Richard Groom; siblings, Cathy Kleeman, John Groom and Caroline Roche; and his son, Jacob. A memorial service will be held at Walker Chapel Church on Saturday, March 2, 11 a.m., with burial afterwards. Walker Chapel is located at 4102 N. Old Glebe Rd., Arlington, VA 22207.
