THOMAS MARTIN Obituary


Dr. FREDERICK MARTIN  "Fred" (Age 85)  
Dr. T. Frederick Martin passed away on April 8, 2017 in Bethesda, MD surrounded by his lovingfamily. He was born in Ames, Iowa on May 29, 1931 to Robert and Ethel Martin, the oldest ofseven children. Locally, he is survived by his devoted wife, Louise Harper Martin; stepson, Jeffrie Doss and two granddaughters, Jordan and Zoe. He is is survived by his sister, Karen Garrison; two brothers, David and Ernest Martin; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Dr. Martin graduated from Iowa State University in 1958 with a Bachelor of Science degree inZoology. He also served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps as Field Cadre and Instructor from 1952 to 1954. Fred was employed at Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago from 1960 to 1965 doing research on enzyme inductions and kinetic systems in the Dept. of Microbiology. He then matriculated at Howard University College of Dentistry receiving his DDS in 1970. Dr. Martin had a substantial career in private practice and public health dentistry in Chicago from 1970 to 1990 serving as Dental Director at two major community health centers there. He also served as Dental Director at the Community Health Centers in Washington, DC from 1990 to 2000. A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 21, 2017 from 11 a.m. at the Peoples Congregational United Church of Christ, 4704 13th St., NW, Washington, DC. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to: Hope Connections for Cancer Support, Bethesda, MD.

No matter his health concerns, Fred taught us all to enjoy life to the fullest. He will be deeply missed. My prayers and condolences go out to Louise and the rest of his family.
