To the Holden family, I was stunned today while coming home from work and I heard about bike safety changes that were set in motion by Navy Seal Tim Holden's fatal bike accident. I was Tim's massage therapist at the POAC between 1996 and 2005. Pam, I only met you once in your townhouse in Arlington when I worked on you and your friend after a race. During my visit I was touched by how naturally comfortable Tim was while interacting with your youngest daughter. Seeing Tim's priorities with family, work and country make me realize how fortunate I am to have helped him when he came to me.

With only knowing Tim for a short time I believe this quote truly embodies his persona. RIP brother.

I was able to attend the Papal Mass yesterday at the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. A thought came to me during a quiet moment & that thought was -- Tim should be here! I closed my eyes and knew --- in that moment --- he was!! I could hear his words playing over and over in my head --- 'Colleen, I've been preparing my whole life for this'! And I knew Tim had a 'front row seat'!

I am a senior in high school who had the privilege of being able to talk to Mr. Holden about attending the Naval Academy. He gave me valuable advice on what to say and how to go about getting into the Naval Academy. He was an enormous help and I'm very grateful. I could tell from the short amount of time that I talked to him that he was truly a great man. I am sorry for his loss. Thinking of his family at this time.

Dear Holden Family, I never had the opportunity to meet many of you, but Tim and his siblings are our second cousins. I have such fond memories of visits with the Holdens. Tim's dad was one of my mother's favorite cousins. They are a special family and we loved being able to visit them. Our thoughts and prayers have been with each and every one of you during this difficult time. My brother Matt, sister Marian, and my mother Loretta Ford Laidley, were able to attend Tim's memorial service. Even though I've never met many of you, I feel such a love for you and share in your loss. I pray that through your pain, you will feel Tim's presence in your lives and know that he continues to watch over you, from the other side. And that you will find comfort and peace in knowing that you will have the opportunity to be with him again, someday. We love you.

We hope you can find comfort in the wonderful memories that you had together. RIP Tim! Our deepest sympathy, Scott and Nancy Hill

Lucy and I were so saddened to hear of Tim's passing. We were grateful for the opportunity to see Tim and my other classmates at last year's reunion. So many memories. Tim never took the easy route. He relished challenges and always overcame them. But he always had time to help others. He was a friend, a leader, and a role model. People were naturally drawn to Tim. He combined a wry sense of humor with a focus on accomplishment that inspired people to give more of themselves, because that's what Tim did. Lucy and I extend our deepest condolences to Tim's family and trust that they will find comfort in friends, family, and faith.

I just learned of his passing today. Tim and I became friends in 2003 while at SAIC and have had a great relationship continuously thereafter. We were both Naval Officers. I wish I had been privileged to serve with him on active duty but I am proud and honored to have had him as my friend and colleague. Tim was one of the finest and most outstanding men I've ever known or known of. Such a patriot, devout Christian, top notch naval officer and leader, and kind, genuine human being. I will miss him all of my remaining days. May God rest his soul and protect his family...

I met Tim while he was still on active duty at in the USN. I liked him right away and we had running and biking in common so we hit it off pretty good. Fortunately, I never did either with him or he would have demolished me.
After he retired we were fortunate to bring him into SAIC where we worked together for several years including on some challenging international projects. He was a tremendous guy to work with and always brought the can- do SEAL attitude to our efforts as well as a sense of humor. Later, after he left the company we kept in touch and had dinner a few times. Tim always made you feel like you were one of his best friends, even if you had not seen him in a year. That was just how he was.
I never got to meet you Pam or the girls but Tim talked about you all the time so I knew he was a great family man. I am so sorry for your loss.
I was shocked and saddened by this tragic accident and ask that you and your family please accept my sincere condolences on your loss.

I met Tim at a Washington Business Journal event in DC. He came up to me and introduced himself and inquired about career opportunities for his daughter Christina.
From that point on we became friends, and I considered him a mentor. He always had time to give advice, or help with anything. He was a proud loving father, husband, and grandfather! He was so delighted to be a grandfather! I was blessed to have had him as a friend and mentor. I will miss him and I my heart and prayers go out out to his family and friends. We have lost a tremendously amazing person.

Tim was a great friend and significant career mentor to me and many others. He always met everyone with a strong handshake, a smile, and most likely a good laugh. He was the consummate professional and a good, good man. Tim left this world too soon, but he left it a better place. His influence in the lives of those who knew him will carry on for ages. He will be missed. May God Bless the Holden family.

I was so saddened to hear of Tim's passing. I served with Tim at the Naval Headquarters in London in the 80s. He was a Commander, I was a Lieutenant. He was a natural leader, charismatic, confident. He rode his bike to work every day he wasn't traveling (rain, shine, snow) and got me into it too. We enjoyed many lunchtime runs around Hyde Park. I always think of Tim when I reflect back on those days. I hope his loved ones can take some solace in knowing that Tim clearly made a difference in the lives of many, including my own.

I just received the news and am still in shock. I had the honor of working for Tim when he was Commodore of Group 1, and he had an indelible impact on me. As many others will say, he was one the very finest people I've had the privilege of knowing. I stayed in touch with him over the years, and he was gracious enough to personally promote me to Commander in 2004 and to Captain in 2009. My intent was to have him retire me next year...

As you know, he is the kind of person that simply inspires loyalty - not ever because he demanded it, but simply because you had so much respect and admiration for him.

Different memories of Tim have percolated into my mind over the past 36 hours since hearing of his loss. Of all of them, the most enduring was a casual reflection he shared with me 2 or 3 years ago. He told me that while his faith in Christ had always been important, he was now striving to make his relationship with God the centerpiece or focal point of his life. When a man who modeled wisdom, strength, and grace under pressure makes a statement like that, it sticks with you. As someone who is vocationally called to tell others about their need to follow Jesus wholeheartedly, that was a powerful message that continues to reverberate in me. It's just another example of his influence and impact in my life, and I know others will tell you the same.

I'll never forget him, and will be in prayer for you as an entire family, especially in the coming weeks and months. I'm grieved that I could not be there for the his memorial mass, but I will definitely come to pay my respects soon.

Pam

Tim was one of those rare individuals who everyone wanted to be around. He led by example and from the front; instilled confidence in individuals at all levels by his actions, words, and quiet humor; was the go to guy when things needed to be accomplished in the military and the business world; and was a true American Hero. Tim had those traits which we most value leadership, ethics, devotion to country, and love of family. He would often speak of you, his daughters, and grand kids, and when he did he would be beaming. His family was the center of everything for him.

I don't have the words to adequately express the feelings for your loss. We will keep you and your family in our thoughts and prayers. My sincerest condolences to your family and you.

My heart has been heavy since I heard the news of Tim's passing. I know that he was a man of profound faith, who loved his family very much. The last time I saw Tim, he was riding his bike on the Capital Crescent trail in the Palisades and I was running in the opposite direction. We stopped and talked for about half an hour and shared a few laughs about friends, family and faith. It comforts me to know that because of his faith, he is in a better place - and when I question myself, I remember the words of St. Thomas Aquinas, who said "To one who has faith, no explanation is necessary. To one without faith, no explanation is possible." Pam, know that you and your family are in our thoughts and prayers - and may the Lord hold you in the palm of His hand.

I had the tremendous pleasure of meeting Tim at SAIC when we worked together on the Athens-2004 Olympic security program. A softer speaking, more dedicated professional you will never meet. In my former Navy days, I had worked alongside the SEALs in a support role, and my impression of them was already good. Meeting and working with Tim only increased that respect. I remember Tim telling me was once invited to accompany a senior U.S Special Operations Flag Officer to Russia for a International Special Operations event. Jump qualified, he was invited to jump with their Spetnaz troops. That night at a banquet, a senior Russian officer presented Tim with a set of Russian jump wings, with the comment, "For your first jump over Russia!" Tim said he raised more than a few Russian eyebrows with the response, "As far as you know..." Tim was a true mans-man and will be missed. RIP Tim....

Tim Holden was my friend and ally. When I was working with the Teams and filming them, he decided the glass was half full, not half empty. He helped support the project and in that process, he became my friend. Tim was a SEAL guy who helped influence me...when he said meet him at 8:00 AM, I learned quickly he meant 7:45 AM !! always supportive, always positive, he showed me how to let go and move forward. "Never ring the bell" followed by that smile and laugh. "Gordy," he said, " thanks for your work." Thanks for my work?? I got more out of all of that than I could ever describe, including some good friends. Tim Holden was a good friend.
Loss is never about the departed. It is about those of us who are left behind. My support goes to his family.

The thread goes back . I remember serving as an altar boy with Tim at St Catherine's. "Timmy" was always paired up with us older "veterans" but he gave no ground. Even back then, Tim set high standards for himself. ( "Timmy - you got to relax LOL".)Tim Holden served his God

As he showed many the way through darkness as a beacon of light, skill and extraordinary commitment to God, family and military, may his path now be filled with light and love and the peace which passes all understanding. My condolences to his family, colleagues and friends.

I am deeply saddened by Tim's passing. While at the Naval Academy, we were good friends. He was the drummer in our rock group and a good one at that. Tim always had a smile that was uplifting and made you feel glad to be around him. I will miss him.

I am so saddened by the passing of Tim. But I can smile with my heart and soul because I had the chance to meet such a wonderful, spiritual, loving person. A family man. An unbelievable Grampa. An American hero in every respect. God graced this world with Tims presence. Maybe not long enough for those who knew him and loved him. Now he will grace God our Heavenly Father with his love, bravery, honor and respect. The heavens will become stronger because Tim is there. God bless you Tim. God bless Pam and your beautiful daughters with strength to make it through this sad time. If they are anything like you Tim,they will because of the strength and love you have always given them.
