Velma Sharff Obituary

SHARFF Velma Jane SHARFF (Age 95) Of Falls Church, VA was called home by her Heavenly Father on June 18, 2009. She passed away peacefully at home with her loving family by her side. Jane spent her childhood on a farm in Oklahoma and after high school graduation, she moved to Detroit, Michigan where she attended nursing school. After she graduated she enlisted in the U.S. Navy as a nurse and officer. She cared for soldiers and sailors who were injured in World War II. She met and married Lee E. Sharff who was also in the Navy. After her military service, she and her husband moved to Falls Church, VA. She worked as a surgical nurse at Arlington Hospital for several years before she became a full-time homemaker and mother to her two daughters, Sharon and Judy. Jane was the most kind and loving person, a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who was truly devoted to her family and their well-being. Her family always came first, she was never too busy to listen, offer advice, comfort or to help. Jane was a sweet gentle spirit who showed God''s love in every word and action. She enjoyed the simple pleasures of life and she will be so greatly missed by family and friends who loved her deeply. Jane was preceded in death by her loving husband Lee in 2007, after 61 years of marriage. Jane leaves her loving daughters, Sharon Thurston and husband, Richard of Salisbury, MD and Judy Hurst of Luray, VA. She is also survived by three grandchildren: Tanya Bannavong and husband, Oune, Kimberly Mendenhall and husband, Kerry and Dennis Shawn Hawkins and wife, Robin. She is also survived by her six great-grandchildren: Simca, Seth, Olivia, Peyton, Ryan and Naomi.
