Of Middleton, TN, formerly of Silver Spring, MD died Thursday, February 6, 2014 at his home. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. March 15, 2014 at Hines-Rinaldi Funeral Home in Silver Spring. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Born in Reese Michigan May 28, 1929 to the late Franz Anton and Lucille Mae Rose Kenel, he was married to Betty Jean Markey (d. Dec 20, 2008) July 30, 1955. He served in the US Navy and worked as an industrial engineer, working as the National Director of the American Automobile Association for Highway and Traffic Safety. He was involved with various associations for driver education and taught at several universities. He was a member of St. Matthew's Catholic Church in Ripley, MS, where a Funeral Mass will be held February 22. Survivors include two daughters, Susan E. Davis (Bryan) of Middleton, TN and Linda A. Laudadio (Paolo) of Walnut, MS; three sons, Steven M. Kenel (Pamela) of Olney, MD, Gregory J. Kenel (Julie) of Clarksburg, MD and Keith A. Kenel (Patricia) of Cedar Rapids, IA; brother, Albert J. Kenel of Saginaw, MI; sister-in-law, Jean Kenel of Saginaw, MI; 19 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Anton, Daniel, William and John Kenel; and two sisters, Lucille Boensch and Barbara Kenel.
