BINZER LENORE RITA BINZER Lenore Rita Binzer, age 80 of Lorton, VA and St. Petersburg, FL passed away on Monday, March 3, 2014 at Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg. Lenore was born on October 20, 1933 in Chicago, IL to the late Warner and Mary (Lavelle) Walker. She was a graduate from the University of Illinois, received her B.A. from Mundelein College, Chicago, IL in 1956 and her M.A. from the Pepperdine University, Los Angeles, CA in 1978. Lenore taught Elementary school for 3 years then opened and operated her own business, an antique store in Old Town, Alexandria, VA from 1980-2005. Her successful 25year business was named "Lenore & Daughters". Her activities and involvement in the community included: President, Vice-President and Secretary at Mt. Vernon Manor Citizen's Association in Alexandria, VA; Treasurer of Women's' Political Caucus Commonwealth of Virginia; Commissioner of Women, Mt Vernon District, in Alexandria, VA. Formerly on the Board of Directors in Virginia for the Virginia United Community Ministries, and Virginia Eldercrafter as well as organizations in St. Petersburg, FL; she was a member of the American Delegation welcoming the first visit of Women in Government of the People's Republic of China; and member of the ASPEC. She mentored and lectured on Decorative Arts and Antique British Silver at the Museum of Fine Arts and Eckerd College. One of her prouder moments consisted of being listed in the Bibliography of J. Weintraub's Publications of Activist Women in1983 and Profiled in Living History Women's Studies, Duke University in 1985. Lenore is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Dr. William C. Binzer, three sons Gregory (Margie) Binzer, Dr. Randall (Tennie) Binzer and William W. (Darlene) Binzer, two daughters Dr. Ellen (Dr. James) Jenkins and Peggy Binzer, along with 12 grandchildren. Visitation will be held at the DEMAINE FUNERAL HOME, 520 South Washington St, Alexandria, VA 22314, (703)-549-0074, on Tuesday, March 18 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 8710 Mt. Vernon Highway, Alexandria, VA 22307 on Wednesday, March 19 at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be held at a late date in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA.
