Emma Lee Neighbors was united with her Lord on March 8, 2014. She was the greatest wife, mother, sister, friend and a champion of those who are less fortunate. Born in Mexia, Texas, she was the oldest daughter of four born to her parents, Thomas and Elsie Hamill. Her career began as an industrial security officer at Collins Radio Corporation in Dallas Texas. In 1962, Emma Lee met and married then U.S. Army Captain James D. Neighbors of Pittsboro, North Carolina. In 1963 Emma Lee gave birth to her daughter Lisha and in 1965 she gave birth to her son James Jr. She and her husband and two children lived in various military and non-military communities throughout the world, finally settling in Oakton Virginia in 1977.Throughout her years as a wife and mother Emma Lee volunteered her time and talents in numerous churches and animal rescue organizations. She served on several association boards as President in Bayse, Virginia and in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Emma Lee was a wonderful cook and a talented quilt maker. She is survived by her husband James Sr., her two children Lisha Weber and James Neighbors, Jr., two grandchildren (Jordyn Emilee and Ankita Joy) and two sisters (Winnie Kay and Weldaleen). After successfully defeating lymphoma in 2012, she peacefully surrendered to this disease on March 8, 2014. She will always be remembered for her special compassion for all creatures great and small.
