Of Falls Church, VA passed away at his parent's home in Alexandria, VA on March 27, 2014.
Born in San Francisco, CA, he was the son of retired RADM Theodore E. Lewin, USN and Janet G. Lewin. As a child in a Navy family, he lived in the states of California, Hawaii, South Carolina, Virginia, Connecticut, and New York in addition to Guam and the Philippines. He attended a Montessori school in Virginia as a pre-schooler. He graduated from Ledyard High School in Ledyard, CT and Mitchell College in New London, CT. He also attended the University of Washington and George Mason University.
As an adult, he worked as a stage hand at DC area entertainment venues, primarily for the Washington National Opera, The Kennedy Center, and Jiffy Lube Live Pavilion (formerly the Nissan Center) in Gainesville, VA. He was a member of Local 22 of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees.
He thoroughly enjoyed his work, especially the coordination of the large staff of stage hands in Gainesville. Other pleasures included snow and water skiing, camping, swimming, fresh water fishing and snorkeling and shell collecting in the South Pacific.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his brother, Michael S. Lewin, Michael's wife Pamela Kruh, nephews and niece Zachary, Samuel, and Etta Lewin, all of Old Saybrook, CT and his long term companion, Dorothy Harris Limbrick of Falls Church. He was pre-deceased by his grandparents BGEN Theodore and Florida Lewin of Augusta, ME and Leo H. and Margaret R. Graywacz of Windsor, CT.
Visitation hours are 2 to 4 p.m., Monday, April 7 at Demaine Funeral Home, 520 South Washington Street, Alexandria, VA. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 8 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 8710 Mount Vernon Highway, Alexandria, VA 22309.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Military Family Association, 3601 Eisenhower Avenue, Suite 425, Alexandria, VA 22304. (
