On Saturday, March 29, 2014 at Fairfax Hospital, after a long and good life, Irvin Francis Carpenter went to be with the Lord. He graduated from Virginia Polytechnic in 1940 and had a long and distinguished career in the US Army, retiring in 1972. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth J. Carpenter; a brother, Charles H. Carpenter (Josie) of Baltimore, MD; a daughter, Barbara R. Miller (Jack) of Locust Grove, VA; two grandchildren, Caryn M. Franca (Jim) and David N. Miller (Molly); three great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife, Vivian C. Carpenter; a great-grandson, Nicholas Franca; and sisters, Evelyn Brownell and Dorothy Whitener. Visitation will be at MONEY and KING FUNERAL HOME, 171 Maple Ave. West, Vienna, VA on Monday, April 7 from 6 to 8 p.m. Services will be held at Calvary Hill Baptist Church, 8301 Olley Ln., Fairfax, VA on Tuesday, April 8 at 11 a.m. Burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Irvin Francis Carpenter Memorial Fund, at Calvary Hill Baptist Church. Relatives and friend may share fond memories at:
