GORDON A. NOFFSINGER
Colonel, US Army (Ret.)
Gordon A. Noffsinger, 82 who served in the US Army for over thirty years before retiring in 1984 as a colonel, died on March 9, 2014 at Virginia Hospital Center.
Colonel Noffsinger, was commissioned as 2nd Lt in 1953, held battery and battalion command positions in the air defense and field artillery. He was a graduate of the Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas and the Industrial College of the Armed Forces at Fort McNair in Washington, DC. He represented the US Army as Attaché to Canada. He retired from active duty as Inspector General of the Defense Intelligence Agency. His decorations included the Defense Superior Service Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal w/oak leaf cluster, Bronze Star
Medal, Air Medal, Army Commendation Medal w/2 oak leaf cluster, and General Staff Identification Badge. He served in Germany, Korea, Vietnam, and Canada. He remained a resident of the Washington area while serving as a real estate agent for over 30 years with Better Homes Realty. Colonel Noffsinger was born in Fincastle, VA and graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University. His wife, Loretta Bragas Noffsinger, and a son, Mark A, Noffsinger, both died in 1998. Survivors included two grandsons, Matthew D. Noffsinger of Bayville, NJ and Nathan A. Noffsinger of Conroe, TX; and a great-grandson, Matthew A. Noffsinger of Bayville, NJ.
Friends may call to the Murphy Funeral Home of Arlington, 4510 Wilson Blvd., on Monday, July 21, 2014 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the Fort Myer Old Post Chapel on Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at 11 a.m., with family and friends gathering at 10:30 a.m. Interment, with Full Military Honors, will follow in Arlington National Cemetery.
