Betty Beerman, age 81, departed this life on June 27, 2014 from complications of Alzheimer's disease while a resident at Sunrise Assisted Living at Hunter Mill in Oakton, VA. Betty was born in Akron, Ohio, the second daughter of George and Gertrude Wells. She attended Akron University where she was Homecoming queen, 1950 and was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority. After raising her family she returned to school and became a nurse, a career perfectly suited to her loving and caring nature.
She was active with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) during its inception in the early "70's. For many years she was also an active member of St. Luke's Catholic Church in McLean, VA, and later at St. Mark's Catholic Church in Vienna, VA. Betty was a kind, beautiful and witty woman who loved to paint, bowl, play tennis and travel. She was a member of Westwood Country Club in Vienna, VA. In addition to being a loving wife, mother, aunt and grandmother, she had a wide circle of lifelong friends who were her extended family. She was described by many as "the kindest person I've ever met."
She is survived by her husband, John L. Beerman; daughter, Nancy Harmon (Ben); and sons, Tim Burke (Chrissie), Dan Burke and Dave Burke (Terri). Her son, Tom predeceased her in 2009. She also leaves behind stepchildren, Larry Beerman (Susan), Jackie Lutz (David) and Jo Anne Wagner (Phylyp); six grandchildren and nine step-grandchildren. The family would like to thank the staff at Sunrise Assisted Living for their loving care of Betty during her illness.
The family will receive friends at the Everly Funeral Home, 10565 Main Street, Fairfax, VA from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on July 1, 2014.
