GEORGE S. PRENTICE  

Of Waldorf, MD passed away on July 11, 2014 in Fairfax, VA. He was born in Irenton, Missouri on March 15, 1938 to Joseph and Helen Prentice. He was married to his wife Patricia from 1978 until her death in 2005.
 
George attended the University of Michigan and received his BS in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering. He worked for the U.S. Navy, Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) for 28 years, from 1965 until his retirement in 1998. During his work for NAVSEA George worked on and oversaw continued development of the Navy's Mark 48 torpedo. He was awarded, at his retirement, the Navy Meritorious Civilian Service Award.
 
He was president of the Charles County Chapter of the AARP just before his death.
 
George was preceded in death by his wife, Pat, his parents, Joseph and Helen and brothers, Joe and Gene. He is survived by his brothers and sisters and his late wife's children. Family and friends will hold a gathering at the Fairfax Memorial Funeral Home, 9902 Braddock Road, Fairfax, VA on Saturday, August 9 from 10 a.m. until Noon.
