Henry Thomas Frey, by the grace of his glorious Lord Jesus Christ, "put on immortality" (1 Cor. 15:53) on August 18, 2014 at INOVA Alexandria Hospital. Born September 29, 1927 in Robertson County, Tennessee, Tom received the gift of faith in Jesus at age ten. After serving as a meteorologist in the U.S. Army Air Corps, and then the U.S. Air Force, Tom attended Austin Peay State College in Clarksville, Tennessee. Upon graduation he went to work at "the Chart Plant" officially, the U.S. Air Force Aeronautical Information Center in St. Louis, Missouri. It was in St. Louis, at Third Baptist Church, that Tom met the love of his life, Carol Silvernail, of Roodhouse, Illinois. Just four months later they were married, on September 1, 1956.
Tom's training and experience were in geography, cartography, and the interpretation and use of high altitude photographs and similar data. His principal work was conducted in the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Economic Research Service, where he served for nearly twenty five years. Professor Julian Simon described Tom as a man who "did his job effectively and with courage" in one memorable instance - "harden[ing] into an authentic hero-" "the sort of public servant that citizens deserve but whose existence we sometimes doubt."
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Abner Bidwell and Talitha Mae Frey, his Brother John LeJeune Frey, and his Sister Margaret Lee. Survivors include his beloved and loving wife Carol, Sons John (Sheila) and Bob (Libba), Sisters Rubye and Ruth, five nieces and nephews, six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
