ELLYN DEIRDRE MULRENIN
A longtime resident of northern Virginia, died suddenly on December 12, 2016, at her home in Falls Church, VA. She was 67 years of age. Ellyn was born on July 3, 1949, in Cornwall, NY, to the late Edward F. and Lillian C. Mulrenin. She is survived by her loving siblings, Maureen Pallazza, Kathleen Downs, Edward Mulrenin, and Paul Mulrenin; in-laws and nephews and grandnieces. She grew up in Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY, graduated from Mt. Saint Mary's College in Newburgh, NY, and retired from the U.S. Government in 2014 after a long career, first with the Internal Revenue Service, and then as an auditor for the Department of Navy in Washington, DC. Ellyn lived a full life and had many interests and passions, including traveling, tutoring children, chess, and genealogy, and she was an avid reader. She also derived much joy over the years from her family's companion dogs. She had a special talent in meeting complete strangers and becoming fast friends with them. Most of all, Ellyn's uniqueness was her ready sense of humor and her unbounded generosity. Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Murphy Funeral Home in Falls Church, VA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Ellyn at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 3305 Glen Carlyn Road, Falls Church, VA, on Friday, December 16, 2016, at 10 a.m. Interment will be at a date to be determined in St. Thomas Cemetery, Cornwall, NY. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, friends contribute in Ellyn's memory to St. Anthony Church "to help the poor" or to a charity of their choice.

I also enjoy the company of my dog Badger,I adopted him 17

Ell: It has been 8 years now, Dearest, since she took residence in Heaven above. We still miss you tremendously. I think of you every single day, several times a day. You have had such an impact on my life. I think of you also this time of year because the last message you left on my cell phone was that you wished we had gone out more riding around the now DMV yelling out the window to strangers "Merry Christmas!" You loved it when I wave at strangers and (usually) got them to smile/wave back! In a Big City, this gesture was a demonstration of love and so appreciated by the majority of the people whom we touched, if even in the smallest way. Well, I am yelling loudly now to YOU and wishing you a wonderful time above. Love you bunches, Now & Always, your Sister Stephanie !!

Wow, dearest Ellyn. Here we are.....four years since you went to be with God. I think about you every day, and I miss YOU so dearly. What a major loss it has been. I am glad you did not have to endure the anxiety of Covid-19 and our challenging political times. You would not have appreciated them. I know your times are so much better where you are. I know you are fine in the arms of God, but we sure do miss you here. I love you still and miss you so very much.

Ellyn and I began our friendship 48 years ago at O.C.C.C.in Middletown,N.Y.I was devastated to learn of her passing.We have kept in touch and visited with each other
over the years.I always counted on her good advice and support.I can't she's gone.God Bless you Ellyn I will miss you.

I met Ellyn recently through our GMU OLLI Institute and want to send my sympathies to her family and friends. Ellyn served on our planning committee and had volunteered to teach a genealogy course for us this Winter. I am grateful for the chance to meet her and am saddened by her death.

Ellyn....ELL.....My Sweetest & Dearest FRIEND on this Planet. You have stunned me that you are gone from me. I know I am selfish as I wanted us to grown old together!! You were absolutely EVERYTHING to me. I cannot begin to thank you for all of years of friendship, including those incredible early days when we met at Marymount University and how we were the best study buddies! And, just so many things we did together. I am so happy I got to attend the OLLI Christmas party with you less than 2 weeks ago, and I am so happy I got to see you the day after. I know you are pain free now and re-united with your Mother and other loved ones of yours. I promise to follow in your footsteps and to hold high standards like you always had! Ellyn was a good sister, a good daughter, a good friend, a good team worker, a good Christian, and so much more. But above all, she was a good person. I am only one of three people who have known Ellyn her entire life, and so I can say that she has always been this way. And oh, how I will miss my beloved sister so much.

Ellyn was a person with a true zest for life and I admired her for that. She loved to take trips, even if it meant going by herself because she always knew she would meet new friends! She had a heart of gold and was always very thoughtful of others. She was truly a unique individual who was never afraid to be herself and I will never forget her. May she rest in peace. <3

I got to know Ellyn through my friendship with Stephanie Reger. Ellyn, Stephanie, myself and others traveled together many times over the years, including to New York City to see the play Wicked. She was always upbeat, personable and inquisitive. I enjoyed getting to know her, and I will miss her.
