BATES CARL EDWARD BATES Carl Edward Bates, 76, formerly of Alexandria, Virginia, passed away at his home in Winchester, VA on Wednesday, June 10, 2009 as a result of injuries sustained from a traffic accident in Alexandria, VA on May 16, 2008. He married Eileen D. Bates in Winchester, VA on April 23, 1971. They resided in Alexandria, VA for thirty-eight years before recently moving to Winchester, VA to be close to family. He is survived by his loving wife and their daughter, Sharon Singhas and her husband Rodney, of Front Royal, VA; his son Carl Edward Bates, Jr. and his wife Angie, of Alabama; his daughter Carolyn Debra Parker of Alabama; his brother Burt Bates of Tennessee; his three sisters Peggy Paggett and her husband Hollis of Panama City, FL; Alma Childers and her husband Hugh of Opelika, AL and Ruth Devine of Nashville, TN; eight nieces and ten nephews; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brothers Samuel Jr., and Charles Bates and Hazel Bates. The family will receive friends on Monday June 15, 2009 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the chapel at First Baptist Church in Alexandria where funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 16 at 11 a.m. in the sanctuary. Interment will be held on Thursday, July 30, 2009 at 2 p.m. in Arlington National Cemetery.
