Irene and Phillip,
I was so sorry to hear about the passing of Uncle Ermal. I remember being in "awe" of him when we visited your home in Virginia when I was a little girl. He was full of great stories but always humble and a gentleman. He will be missed. Love to you both, Lisa Fatherree Anderson

Irene,
I am so sorry about Ermal's passing. I worked in his office in the 70's. I came to a party at your home in Annandale - it seems like yesterday although it is 35 years ago.
I just lost my husband last year due to leukemia so I know what you will be facing over the next year. It is so hard to lose your partner of many years. My condolences to you, Philip and family.

Ermal was a wonderful uncle to me. He and Irene were married on July 2, 1942, at our hometown of Okolona, MS, as Ermal had little time off, and Irene's parents were ill. My mother was Irene's big sister, and gave her a wedding there.
Later, Ermal was asked to fill out some form asking where he was married, and he couldn't remember the name of the town!
He and Irene were wonderful to me, having me spend most of a summer in Arlington VA in their one br apt. with them, when I was about 15! I remember my young son hitting a golf ball thru their LR window, and they just laughed about it! Ermal will be greatly missed. What a fine man he was!

I knew Ermal as something of an Office Legend already in 1957, remembering him first as the Eminence behind his desk. Over the years, I came to know Ermal as a Special Person and was proud to carry his favorite saying, “Mighty Fine,” (shortened to MYTFYN) on my own Virginia license plate. That plate lives with my son, JP, in Texas now, as a daily reminder of a person who was and is still Very Special in our lives.

I served under Mr Geiss for quite some time in the 5o's & 6o's. He was a totally dedicated Agency officer and a gentleman. Totally knowledgeable of the Intelligence Community and a very fair boss. It was an honor to serve under him. God bless him and the family.
