Don Massie age 70, of Plano, Texas passed away October 29, 2011. Born in Springvalley, OH he is preceded in death by his parents Ted and Opal Massie and brothers Bob and Neil. He leaves cherished memories for his wife of 46 years Margaret (Peg), siblings Ruthanna, Fred, sons Greg and wife Lori, Ken and wife Tanya plus five loving grandchildren Autumn, James, Ryan, Lauren and Emily.
Don graduated cum laude from the University of Maryland with graduate degrees from University of Oklahoma and St. Mary's University in San Antonio. He served 21 years in the U.S. Air Force. Upon retiring he joined the private sector in the field of government security and compliance. He founded Jarel Consulting LLC providing expertise to individuals working for multiple government intelligence agencies.
Don enjoyed Native American history, collecting much of their art as well as a lifelong hobby of coin collecting. He loved languages and was fluent in Japanese and conversational in Russian, Spanish, Italian, and German. An accomplished chef he raised many of his own herbs and vegetables. An honorary member of Plano, TX, Fire Station 10, he held professional affiliations with the National Classification Management Society, the American Society for Industrial Security, and the Joint Security Awareness Council of Texas and Oklahoma. He was also a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Air Force Association.
His remains were willed to the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas for education and research.
