James Michael "Jim" Childress passed away on November 12, 2011 at Virginia Hospital Center in the presence of his loving and devoted family: Janice, his wife of 41 years, and their sons, Michael (Erica) and Robert. Other survivors include sisters Janice Childress, Jennifer Sharlit and Jacqueline Ball-Costello; brother-in-law Jay Davis; sisters-in law Nancy Childress and Laurie Sidwell; nine nieces and nephews and one grand-niece. Preceding him in death were sisters Judith Davis and Joyce Childress and brother John Childress. Jim's career in the energy field focused on alternative and developing energy resources, culminating in his 15-year tenure as Executive Director of the Gasification Technologies Council. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in his memory be made to the Inova Health Systems Foundation, the Virginia Hospital Center Foundation, or the Washington Regional Transplant Community. A memorial service will be held at The National Presbyterian Church, 4101 Nebraska Ave., NW, on Thursday, December 1, at 11 a.m.
