SUSAN A. McNEELY  

Susan Augusta McNeely, 80, left her earthly being on December 20, 2011 after a several year valiant battle with cancer. She lived in Kensington, MD.
Mrs. McNeely was born in Chicago, Illinois, and lived in the Washington metropolitan area since 1969. She obtained her teaching certificate from Northern Iowa University in 1951 and taught elementary school in Decorah, Iowa, right out of college. She was a devoted mother, stepmother and retired school teacher who enjoyed her work and the friendships she developed at Stenwood Elementary School located in Vienna, Virginia. After her retirement, she stayed active by traveling, dancing, attending bible study and listening to jazz music. She was a member of the Capital Cotillion, Women's Club of Kensington, The Candlelight Waltz Club and St. Paul's United Methodist Church located in Kensington. She recognized and appreciated the love, compassion and support of her family, friends and church members.
She was preceded in death by her second husband, Simon, who died in 1998. Survivors include two children from her first marriage, Steven K. (Denise) Messerli of Aurora, IL, and Robert S. (Sherri) Messerli of Kearneysville, WV; four stepchildren, Warren David (Bonnie) McNeely of Glen Arm, MD., Mary Jane (Fred) Iobst of Wilmington, DE, Marilyn Ann (John) St. Peter of Gaithersburg, MD, and Maureen Edith (Kevin) Feeney of Vienna, VA; a stepsister, Nancy Jensen, and stepbrother, David Jensen, who preceded her in death; four grandchildren; six step-grandchildren and five great-step-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, contributions are encouraged to be made in the memory of Susan A. Messerli McNeely to Montgomery Hospice, 1355 Piccard Dr., Rockville, MD 20855. A celebration of her life will be held on Wednesday, December 28, 2011 beginning at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Kensington, MD.
