Joyce Ann Alston made her transition into eternal rest on Thursday, March 22, 2012 at her home in Fort Washington, MD. Joyce was born in Charlottesville, VA, raised in Buckingham County, VA and moved to the Washington, DC area where she lived for over 40 years. Joyce gave her life to Christ at an early age and was a member of Slate River Baptist Church, Buckingham County, VA. Joyce served in civil service for more than 35 years. She retired as a Chief Protocol Officer at the National Defense University. Joyce was a beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend. She is survived by her husband, Warner Lee Alston of Fort Washington, MD; daughter, NaTanya (Jeff) Wilson of Lawrenceville, GA; son, Franklin Perkins, II of Reston, VA; step-daughter, Renee Gibson of Dale City, VA, Lisa Alston of Lake Ridge, VA; parents, Louise and Roger Perkins of Dillwyn, VA; four sisters, Sharon Jones of Dillwyn, VA, Kathy (Louis) Edwards of Raleigh, NC, Wanda (Bennie) Woodson of Scottsville, VA and Robin Perkins of Richmond, VA; brother and sister-in-law, Lavon and Thelma Alston. Joyce was preceded in death by two brothers, Roger Burnett Perkins and James Bennett Perkins. She is also survived by six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. A Life Celebration Service will be held on Tuesday, March 27, 12 Noon at the GEORGE P. KALAS FUNERAL HOME, 6160 Oxon Hill Rd., Oxon Hill, MD. Interment private. Please sign on-line guest book at:
