We are all so saddened by the loss of Mr.Campbell. What a sweet man who could make us all laugh at a moment's notice. Our best to Colleen -- having read the guest book, it sounds like you have some wonderful friends to look after you and help you to remember this wonderful man. Please know that he touched all of our lives. From the staff of The Virginia Retina Center

Al Campbell could sit at the controls of an ROV and shame the regular operators with his artful touch and intuitive grasp of the operation. The next hour might find him scraping rust and painting steel plates. He would have done both jobs like he did every job he ever did, with dedication, with pride of workmanship, with enthusiasm, with humility, with total attention to detail and with honor. I worked with Al back in the mid eighties when I was in my early twenties. Of all my many, many fond memories of my days at Eastport few rival seeing Al Campbell's bright smile from across the shop, or hearing him call me, the tall skinny kid, Ichabod, or making fun of my last name at Christmastime. He was always looking out for us young guys with a word of advice or encouragement or an intimidating frown if he thought we deserved it. He was universally loved by all of us who worked with him for his kind, helpful demeanor, his unshakeable calm in the craziness that was Eastport in those days and the hardworking example he set for us all.

It only seems like yesterday that I met this handsome couple that just got married and moved into their first apartment in Alexandria across the hall from Bertie. Al was a special man that never met a stranger and had the greatest sense of humor. He will be sorely missed not only by his family but friends as well. The family has so many wonderful memories to help them through this time of sorrow. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Ed & Carolyn Dinkle

I have many good memories of working with Al at Eastport (mostly of him bailing me out of problems). I remember him spending 20 minutes setting up a diving bell test for me. Next day 6 engineers and techs spent half a day trying (and failing) to duplicate what he had done. My favorite tie is still the green leather and felt tie he brought back from Spain. I wish I could be there now, wearing it while bidding him goodby.

You are in our thoughts and prayers as always. We will remember the good times we had with Al and they will bring a smile to our faces with each memory. The fantastic ribs, the trips to the mountain house, the fun and laughter on the deck at the "half way house" and so many good times at the Eagles. Rest in peace our good friend.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you and the family. I'll never forget the good times on your front porch talking about Oren and Doug, our sons as they grow up.in Alexandria .When you all moved, and we would visit you all at your new place, Alvis would always show me the fruit trees and give my wife and I some to take home. In walking the grounds, we would talk about our kids. He was so proud of all of his kids. We will miss him.
