LTC, US Army (Ret.)

Born March 5, 1944 in Lost Creek, PA; and died June 20, 2012 in the Villages, FL. LTC McCoy (US Army retired) formerly of Lake Ridge, VA and Kitty Hawk, NC will be inurned at Arlington National Cemetery. Jim attended Jacksonville University and Central Michigan University. He served 20 years in the Army, including two tours in Vietnam, Germany and his last assignment was at the Pentagon. He was highly decorated to include the Silver Star and Purple Heart. Jim was inducted into the Officer Candidate School Military Hall of Fame in 2005. Before retiring in 2005, he was employed as an executive with Computer Science Corp., Reston, VA. Jim will be remembered for his love of family, friends, God, country and Notre Dame. He is survived by wife of 36 years, Diane of Kitty Hawk, NC; daughters, Erin and Dr. Kathleen McCoy of Northern VA; brother, Joseph McCoy; sisters, Peggy Carroll, Mary Coughlin, and his twin sister, Sally Egan; as well as many nieces and nephews. A Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 30, 2012 at 8:45 a.m. at Old Post Chapel, Ft Myer, VA with formal burial in Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can either be made online or mailed to the (PO Box 5216, Glen Allen, VA 23058) or the Wounded Warriors Project (PO Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675).
