HOWARD FISCHER EDWARDS (Age 90)  

Died February 14, 2013, at INOVA Alexandria Hospital. A native of Bogota, NJ, Mr. Edwards was the son of a physician, Dr. George Lason Edwards, and an opera singer, Charlotte Fischer Edwards, who died at his birth.
He graduated from the Peddie School in Hightstown, NJ in 1942, and received a bachelor's degree from Colgate University in Hamilton, NY in 1944. After that, he went to Officers' Training School at Notre Dame and served as captain of a landing ship tank in the Pacific during World War II. He was honorably discharged from the United States Navy in June 1946.
He was a longtime resident of Sea Girt, NJ and Alexandria, VA. He was an accomplished sailor in his early years in New Jersey and a state champion in the Manasquan River Yacht Club, Sneak Box Class. He was an avid equestrian and rode with the U.S. Park Service at the Manassas National Battlefield. He owned a manufacturers' representative company for 36 years, retiring in 1989 after selling his company.
Mr. Edwards was a longtime member of Belle Haven Country Club and a parishioner of St. Paul's Episcopal Church since 1949, where he proudly did pastoral care.
Survivors include longtime companion, Joanne M. Odle of Alexandria; daughter, Carol Warman; grandson, Andrew Warman and granddaughter, Charlotte Warman.
A memorial service will be held March 23 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Alexandria, VA, with reception to follow.
