On March 15, 2013. She is survived by her dear sister, Mary Earle; her devoted children, Dr. Marilynn Patterson Grant (David), Carolynn Patterson and Leonard Patterson (Brigette); loving grandchildren, Karissa Joy Grant, Jared David Michael Grant and Karen Leann Patterson; sister-in-law, Rosa Lee Hurt; other relatives and friends. Viewing will be held on Monday, March 25, 2013 at 10 a.m. followed by Triumphant Service, 12 noon at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, 901 Third St. N.W. Washington, DC. Interment Lincoln Memorial Cemetery. Mommy,I will never have sufficient words to express all that you mean to me. As I shared in our waning days together, I am honored to be YOUR daughter. When the world has seen my BEST, they have indeed seen you and Daddy. As a woman. Wife, mother and person of faith,you've given me the best gift, an outstanding example. As an adult. I assumed I'd learn everything there was to learn from you. I was incorrect! Even as you faced your final journey, you taught me courage! When you live your life with integrity and love, you can face Jesus with your head held high! I will forever cherish your last words to me, "I love you, baby!" While you are absent from the body, I take solace that you are now present with our Lord! I LOVE you, Mommy!

Mommy, Oh how we miss you. Oh how I will miss your sweet voice when I would call you on the phone. Thank you for first being my mother and then later my friend. Thank you for all of the priceless lessons that only a mother can impart to her daughters. Thank you for showing me what a girl,young lady and woman should be. Thank you for standing up to truth when it would have been more comfortable to ignore it- Thank you for introducing me to faith- for it is that faith which I must now pull upon to help me through this loss....
