On August 10, 2013, HENRY THOMAS TASKIER of Chevy Chase, MD formerly of Fanwood, NJ, Englewood, NJ and New York, NY. Beloved husband of the late Nita Taskier, z"l, to whom he was married for 46 years; brother of late Emmy Miller, z"l, father of Paul R. Taskier and Allan F. Taskier. He and his family escaped from Vienna, Austria in 1938, settling in New York City. He was an avid Boy Scout, achieving the grade of Eagle Scout with Order of the Arrow, and later served as ScoutMaster. He attended City College of New York at night prior to serving in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1945 as a combat infantryman in the South Pacific (Staff. Sgt., M Co., 3rd Batt., 383rd Infantry Reg., 96th Infantry Division, XXIV Corps) participating in the invasions of Leyte and Okinawa. After the war he received his bachelor's degree in Chemistry from Columbia University and focused his career in plastics chemistry. He worked as a research and development scientist for Celanese Corporation of America (later Hoechst Celanese) in Summit, NJ from 1960 to 1993. He held seven U.S. Patents on different aspects of plastics and film chemistry and electrochemistry and was the inventor of the first microporous battery separator that allowed the development of miniature lithium battery. He was a lifelong member of Humanitas Masonic Lodge, NY. Funeral services and interment will be held at the Judean Memorial Gardens Chapel, 16225 Batchellors Forest Rd., Olney, MD at 1 p.m. on Monday, August 12, 2013. Shiva will be held at 7:30 p.m. at the home of Paul Taskier on Monday through Thursday, August 12 - 15. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Bread for the City, 1525 7th St., NW, Washington, DC 20001.
