SCHINTZEL JOHN CHARLES SCHINTZEL John Schintzel of Wilber, Nebraska, died on September 21, 2013. He was 51. John was the adored husband of Jennifer Hroch. He was cherished by his parents, Bette Mae Schintzel and the late Arthur Schintzel; his parents-in-law, Michael and Stephanie Hroch; his sisters Katherine Greenlaw (Steven) and Sarah Evans, brother Arthur Schintzel, Jr.; sister- and brother-in-law Hillary and Doug Hayek; and best friends Gerald and Melissa Lamkin. He was a most special uncle to nephews Eric, Mark and Scott Greenlaw, and nieces Logan and Rylee Hayek, Sophia Schintzel and Callie Lamkin. Funeral services will be held at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 204 S. School Street, Wilber, Nebraska on Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at 2 p.m., with visitation at Kuncl Funeral Home, 607 W. 3rd Street, Wilber, Nebraska on Monday, September 30, 2013 from 5 to 8 p.m. Interment will take place at the Wilber Czech Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the John Schintzel Memorial Fund, c/o Grand Valley State University Rowing Club, 1 Campus Drive, 110 Kirkoff Center, Allendale, MI 49401, (www.grandvalleyrowing.com). John was raised in Falls Church, Virginia, where he developed a life-long love of sports; respect for family, friends, community, and hard work; and a great sense of fun. He earned the rank of Eagle Scout, and demonstrated Scouting's values of honor, service, and integrity in every aspect of his life. Awarded a crew scholarship, he attended the University of Charleston in West Virginia, and graduated with a degree in Business Management. He continued to row competitively long after college, highlighted by respectable showings in England's 1986 Royal Henley Regatta and also at the Olympic trials in Canada. He was an ardent fan of the Washington Redskins and the University of Nebraska's Huskers. John and his best friend, Gerry, regularly attended Nebraska Cornhusker football games at Memorial Stadium, with a pre-game stop at the Watering Hole for wings and a couple of pitchers of beer. A dedicated runner, he faithfully traveled to Virginia Beach each year to participate in the Shamrock Sportsfest events with his sister Sarah, and his parents. John moved to the West Coast in 1996 as a Principal Consultant for Deltek Systems, and in 2003 joined Kinetek Consulting as a partner, where he laid the foundation for the strong software consulting company it has become today. He devoted countless hours to his customers throughout the country, and earned the highest professional respect of his business partners, colleagues, and clients. On May 18, 2002, John married Jenn, the love of his life after having been smitten by her six years earlier. They relocated to Wilber, Nebraska, where he and Jenn transformed the Hroch family homestead into a welcoming haven for all, including their ever-expanding menagerie of dogs and cats. With Jenn by his side, John became official grillmaster, connoisseur of fine wine and great beer, repairer of anything, host extraordinaire, and friend and confidant to all. John has left this world much too soon, but his touch changed our lives. We mourn him as we toast the light that he brought to each of us. John was one of the nicest people I've ever had the pleasure of knowing. He had a great laugh and could light up a room. He will leave a huge hole in the hearts of everyone who knew him. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.
