DAVID GREEVY Obituary

GREEVY DAVID UPTON GREEVY David Upton Greevy, 60, better known as "Dug," died at home in Burke, VA, on October 24, 2013. A native of Williamsport, PA, Dug was born on March 20, 1953, and was the youngest son of Judge Charles F. Greevy, Jr., and Eleanor L. (Seitzer) Greevy. Dug attended Wyoming Seminary Prep School and graduated from the Mercersburg Academy in 1971. He attended Dickinson College in Carlisle, PA, graduating with a BA in Philosophy in 1975. During his time at Dickinson, he studied abroad in Scotland for a year and forever after held a profound love for the United Kingdom. He attended Dickinson School of Law in Carlisle. Dug married Margaret "Peggy" Sims on July 30, 1983, aboard the Hiawatha Paddleboat on the Susquehanna River. Dug's father, Judge Greevy, officiated over their ceremony. Dug's beloved Peggy passed away on September 3, 2008, after a courageous 23-year battle with breast cancer. They had been married for 25 years. Dug and Peggy are survived by their only son, James "Jay" Greevy of Springfield, VA. Dug is also survived by his brothers, Charles F. "Skip" Greevy, III, (Gloria) of Williamsport, PA, and Robert A. Greevy (Sophie) of Hummelston, PA, and a sister, Ann E. Shumaker (John) of Grantville, PA. Dug is also survived by four nephews, two nieces, four grandnephews, five grandnieces, his mother-in-law, Carol, Peggy's two brothers and sister, as well as many dear and lifelong friends. Dug was preceded in death by his mother on May 4, 1999, and by his father on May 14, 2003. During his ambitious, energetic career in government, business, and consulting, he worked for the Federal Election Commission in Washington, DC, the National Technical Information Service of the US Department of Commerce in Springfield, and the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics in Reston, where he ended his professional career in the fall of 2012. Dug was co-editor of an original reference book and exhaustive directory of Political Action Committees entitled The PAC Directory, which was published in 1982 during the early years of computerized research. After its success, he coedited a second two-volume directory that was published in 1984. Dug was active in state and local politics, serving as Treasurer for Congresswoman Leslie Byrne's Campaign from 1993 - 1998. Dug was a Mason with Lodge #707 (Williamsport) for most of his life. He was also a member of the Williamsport Consistory. Dug enjoyed cruises, travel, gadgets, the Beatles, and film. His contagious humor, zeal for philosophical chats, and fun-loving lifestyle will be missed. A Memorial Service celebrating Dug's life will be held at the Fairfax Memorial Funeral Home, 9902 Braddock Road, Fairfax, VA, on Sunday, November 3, 2013, at 1:00 p.m. Visitation for family and friends will be at noon at the Funeral Home. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, his family requests that memorial contributions in Dug's honor be made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation or Habitat for Humanity, two of Dug's favorite charities. In lieu of flowers, his family requests that memorial contributions in Dug's honor be made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation or Habitat for Humanity, two of Dug's favorite charities.
