"Bill" (Age 96)

On Friday, March 28, 2014, at Goodwin House Bailey's Crossroads, Falls Church, VA. A devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Bill Harves was a 32- year employee of the Veterans Administration and was the last of the founders of St. Michael's Episcopal Church in Arlington, VA. His wife of 62 years, Ginger Harves, pre-deceased him in 2006. He is survived by their two children, Elizabeth Austen of Springfield, VA, and John Harves of Olney, MD; daughter-in-law Carolyn Harves; four grandchildren, Katherine Austen (Jeff) of Portland, OR, Christine Boes (Danny) of Arlington, VA, Kimberly Coughlin (Mark) of Millersville, MD, and Brian Harves (Kaitlin) of Bethesda, MD; and one great-grandchild, Rose. Bill Harves was born in Alabama, the only child of Charles and Martha Harves. After moving from Alabama to Washington, DC, in 1940, he attended Benjamin Franklin University and worked for the War Department. During World War II, Bill Harves enlisted in the Army in 1942, graduated from Officers Candidate School, and rose to the rank of Captain. He served two years as the Tech Supply Officer, 2nd Emergency Rescue Squadron, 13th Air Corps, in the South West Pacific. In total, he served his country for 38 years. Inurnment will be private.
