JESSIE W. BYNUM (Age 91)  

Passed away April 15, 2014. Jessie was a native of Chelsea, Oklahoma living in Alexandria for the last 42 years. While in Oklahoma, Jessie graduated from the Oklahoma School of Nursing. After graduating, she moved to San Antonio, Texas where she earned her Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of the Incarnate Word. Jessie joined the United States Army near the end of WWII retiring as a Colonel. During her years of service she served in World War II, Korean, and Vietnam War receiving the National Defense Service Medal and Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal. Jessie was a world traveler traveling to 95 countries and speaking fluently in Italian, French and Spanish languages. She volunteered at Washington National Opera for 28 years where she was awarded the Silver Rose Award. Jessie enjoyed gardening serving on the gardening committee with her home owners association and was an expert birder. Jessie will be honored at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
